Inspiration: Horror trailers
Buried (2010)
The film Buried is a 2010 Drama/Thriller. Directed by Rodrigo Cortes, in a nutshell it's about an actor (Ryan Reynolds) plays Paul as a US truck driver working in the war in Iraq. After an attack by the Iraqis he woke up and found himself in a coffin buried alive. Over time he finds himself to have only a few personal items still with him, such as a lighter, cell phone and a torch. Although for him it's becomes a race against death as slowly the death trap starts to unravel limiting his time to escape. We found this movie as great inspiration for our own teaser trailer, getting the idea of using a mobile phone as a key prop in our trailer, also to keep current with our target audience we choose the popular blackberry mobile. We also was inspired by the small confined area of filming which was done in buried to apply in our trailer, although we notice that we would have to find a very good actor and other ways to raise suspense and tension when we needed, also we would need an actor which had very good non verbal communication skills to express in our scenes. Furthermore the fact that this film was done on such a low budget we found this also inspiring as we knew we were also working on a low budget, although still nowhere near the kind of low budget the producers of buried were on, but found this motivating.
Devil (2010)
The film Devil is a 2010 Horror/Thriller and is sub genre as a supernatural. Directed by John Erick Dowdle, in a nutshell it's about a group of five people, which come from different ethnicities and nationalities. Become trapped in an elevator, although the twist is that the Devil is amongst one of the five of them. The film involves a lot of supernatural atmosphere, while still being film within a urban society. We also found this movie quite inspiring from its use of supernatural being it brings, as we wanted to include this kind atmosphere in out own trailer. We also took notice of the flickering of lights used in the trailer, as we wanted to bring this element into our trailer as well There was also television interruptions included in small parts of the trailer which we also found key to add into our own trailer. We also found the use of voiceover just a blank screen, can be very effective when trying to convey suspense or tension, so we also added this in our notes to maybe add as an element into our own trailer. Towards the end of the film there are very shorts clips from different parts of the film along with a short sound effect which we found very effective and wanted to use this technique with our own key sound effect of the BBM Ping noise.
