Make up may not seem like something you need to be cautious with, although make up has the exact same potential for danger as high powered lights. Everyone reacts totally different to make up and many people may not even know they are allergic to a certain chemical. These reactions could include rashes, swelling of the eyes and skin, infections and can be potentially fatal.
Recently we discussed as a group the hazards that make up can bring. We hadn't realised that make up had the potential to cause such damage. Our teacher brought to our attention that we have yet to discuss the dangers of make up and immediately we begun to brainstorm. In order to prevent any potential dangers, we will ensure to do a reaction test 24 hours prior to filming. The reason we are giving each of our actors an entire 24 hours is that an allergic reaction may not become noticeable immediately. Commercial make up comes with enough hazards, but seeing as we are making our own makeup we are going to have to be extra careful when applying and making the make up. Listening carefully when being instructed on make up will minimize incidents, as the quantity of each ingredient is vital to its creation and a small mistake could result is a horrible disaster. After our make up has been made, we will ask a teacher to check if the solution has been made correctly.
A wide array of make up could be used, including dyes, foundation, lipstick and wax. The main problem with lipstick is that it could contain aluminum to make it last longer. The aluminum in lipstick and other make up is used to make it last longer. Prior to applying any make up we will take a look at what chemicals they contain, and make an informed decision whether or not to apply it. It is essential not to apply make up to broken or damaged skin as it could create an infection. Upon applying the make up, we will make sure that make up is not applied to skin with broken areas. Other key areas to take great caution around are the eyes and the mouth. In the likely situation that one of our actors requires make up to applied around the eyes and mouth, steps will be taken to avoid any make u
Below, here is an example of us brainstorming hazards that could occur during filming when make up is needed.
