Final Cut Pro is a non linear video editing software. Our group will be using this video editing software to allow us to simply import videos on to the software, then allow use to use ripple, roll, slip, slide, scrub, razor blade and time remapping edit functions. Also allowing use to cut videos and combining multiple video's from different sources. Once the software was released by apple in 1998, many independent filmmakers were felt this software was good to use because of its ease of use and compatibility with a variety of video formats and became very popular. A few films were made through Final Cut Pro, ranging from small straightforward productions such as 'Napoleon Dynamite' to action pictures such as 'JarHead' to special effects extravaganzas such as 'Corpse Bride' and '300'.
During our media lesson, the whole media class took part in filming a teaser trailer so we could take the footage and practise using Final Cut Pro as our editing software. Once the shots for the teaser trailer were filmed we was given the chance to practise editing our selfs, learning techniques like the razor blade tool. Once the shots were put together we watched our teacher teach us a technique using the rubber band tool, this allowed to make a smooth transition into the next shot. During this process many errors would made because we were new to this type of software. Mistakes such as cutting too much out of a shot and not being able to render the video when effects were added. Once we noted key tools and techniques down and through trial and error we were able to learn from our mistakes and basic overview on how to operate Final Cut Pro.

For More information and techniques on how to edit in Final Cut Pro we resulted in looking for tutorials on youtube. We used the two videos above to help use with our editing. These two tutorials gave use insight into basic editing techniques such as in-point and outpoint and learnt shortcuts for example i(In-point) and O (Outpoint). We also learnt how to delete sound, we did this by locking the visual data and then selecting and deleting the audio from the shots.
Most of the users making tutorials on youtube were more advanced users of Final Cut Pro. This meant that this was the best way to learn since they were able to explain different techniques in a simple and basic way. The videos above helped us a lot because they explained the techniques in a simple way which gave us a better understanding on how to use Final Cut Pro and also because they filmed them self working in Final Cut Pro it was easier to follow through and not make mistakes.
