Paranormal Activity 3 is a supernatural horror film it is the third film of the Paranormal Activity series and serves as a prequel; set 18 years prior to the events of the first two films, released October 2011 and produced by Oren Peli. The film was financed by the conglomerate Paramount Pictures which funded the movie with a budget of 5 Million dollars grossing 86,459,442 million dollars; the film broke financial records upon release, setting a new record for a midnight opening for a horror film $8 million.
Posters are advertisements which are displayed in various places; preferably in locations were the poster would be noticed by most of the population. You find movie posters in locations such as billboards, film theaters, in magazines, the Internet, and most commonly the side of buses. The objective of a movie poster is to force people to come watch the film as it is put in locations where you can’t miss it for example the side of buses.
The main colour used to set the character of this poster is black, black connotes strong remarks such as death and power.so its used to make the audience no what type of movie it’s going to be, and that a powerful force is within the movie but isn’t stated or displayed and leaving the audience in a type of suspense, as if the rest is an mystery this all links to the moral of the film as regular fans would know most of the activities that take place is a process of suspense and wonder. Red is used on the actual name of the movie red implies danger, red implies instruction, red implies seriousness so using this in the title of the movie its suggesting that it’s something you don’t want to miss and it does send that message to its audience as the movie set a new record for a midnight opening for a horror film of $8 million. “you prepare to return to his old nightmares?” the rhetorical question is written in white, white connotes pureness, faith and death, this being written in white shows the level of seriousness in question this makes the audience want to make them want to watch the film even more as they’re forced to think the film is going to be full of some serious footage. The rest of the text are colored in a type of bright blue that gives that cold chilling feeling of what’s to come.
The main image is high key lighting but the background is dark so it creates a mysterious look. The image on this poster has an special effect which makes the audience notice that everything in this movie isn’t clear as the picture is slightly blurry which is similar to the trailer as its all non-linear and not in order so this theme is consistent. The image has been edited to look a Grey colour, a pale Grey which connotes death suggesting these two characters may be victims to the powerful force that can’t established.
Looking the text in more depth serif fonts are used to get that more old fashion appearance, the castings names aren’t mentioned which adds to that unclear information it’s been giving of throughout.
To conclude, I think this poster has been successful in fulfilling its objective by the strategies it used, making everything unclear and wanting the audience to watch the movie to answer what they wanted to find out; also by looking at the amount they made on the midnight opening it strengthens my judgment.
